September 13, 2019– It’s Been A Good Day! (Day -6)

Hi Friends!

Bo will receive his last dose of chemo med #1 at 10pm tonight! ? He’ll also receive the last dose of the anti-seizure med tomorrow morning at 9am. It feels like we have passed one milestone so far!

Today Bo had two visitors! First, our very favorite Chemo Pal, Jenny, came by to play with Bo. Chemo Pals are kind of like a Big Brother/Big Sister, but for kids with cancer. They come to be a companion and play, and in our case, allow us to get out of the room or take a shower! Jenny has been coming to visit and spend time with Bo for five months now. We love Jenny!

Also, Lance’s brother, Tom, came by and the two of them took Bo on his first walk around the unit! It was his first time out of the room since we checked in on Monday, and he thoroughly enjoyed it! Since Bo doesn’t understand why he needs to wear a mask to leave the room, the rain cover barrier is an alternative method to provide the protection he needs to be in the halls, although he still must remain within our unit where the air is specially filtered for kids like him undergoing treatment.

Overall, Bo is tolerating the chemo very well. We will see the strongest effects of the chemo in 1-2 weeks and are expecting that to be tough, but for now we’re trying to be present in today, and today was a good day!

Tomorrow morning at 9am Bo begins the second chemo med. This med, as we mentioned before, will be particularly hard on his kidneys and bladder. The nurses described it as shards of glass that have the potential to really irritate his bladder, so they give a bladder protection med that attracts the shards and helps to carry them out of his body. They will also really turn up the fluids he will be receiving and we will need to change and weigh his diapers every 2 hours around the clock.

Bo will likely gain a few pounds of water weight temporarily so there’s a chance you will see a pretty cute, puffy baby in pictures next week.

As always, thank you for being a part of this journey with us. We love you all! ❤️

  1. Thanks for the updates and explanations. It allows us to pray more specifically… for example, I can see how the unit handles the germs issue for Bo. Lots of praying going on for all of you!

  2. Thanks for the updates. We’ll be praying extra hard. May God bless you and keep all of you safe in the palm of his hands
