Yesterday, as you know, Bo had surgery to place a central line in his chest for all future chemo treatments. Although the surgery went smoothly, he has been in quite a bit of pain and discomfort. We were also not able to be admitted to begin Bo’s second cycle of chemo because his blood counts were too low. We will be checking in on Wednesday instead!

We were able to spend time chatting with Bo’s oncologist about what his awesome test results mean and the plan going forward. Although his bone marrow and spinal tap results are indeed amazing, his doctor believes that Bo still falls into the category of high risk and has decided to explore the possibility of a bone marrow transplant as an option. This means seeing if Bo has a viable match in the bone marrow registry. She did not make this decision lightly and consulted with leading AML experts across the country. At this time, the plan is for 2 more rounds of chemo in preparation for transplant. If a perfect donor is not found, the plan will be for 3 more rounds of chemo instead of a transplant. In both cases our prayers will be that treatments go well and his leukemia does not return.

The possibility of moving forward with a bone marrow transplant is big and we are feeling the weight of it. Naomi’s results came back and she is unfortunately not a match, so they have already started cross-matching him against the Be The Match registry. We are praying that they are able to find the perfect match quickly and that whoever it is, God is preparing them for this process as well.

If I’m honest, the last 24 hours have been really tough. Receiving the news of Bo being high risk and being sent to transplant felt like getting the wind knocked out of me. Watching Bo feel so much discomfort after having his central line placed was also hard. I was telling Lance, it feel like even when we are dealt a blow, God gives us a soft landing. We are comforted knowing this news does not take God by surprise and that He is still the same today as He was Thursday when we received the amazing news about the test results. Some days are harder than others, and we are sitting in some hard days right now.

Many of you have asked how you can help, and right now, meals are a really tangible way. Our friend, Shannon, has kindly organized a meal train for us. If you’re interested, we can send you a link. Thank you again for walking with us in this and for loving and praying for us.

  1. We are praying for you and your family as you walk through this valley.
Praying for strength for you and for complete healing now and the future for Bo. Its hard to understand why this happens to such a young child but it does and so thankfully we have a God , who we know loves us and IS love. He will make a way.
Also, keeping Julianna and Randy in our prayers; we have shared photos of our grandchildren with each other. Know that they also love you guys so much!
